A psychology degree in todays world offers more opportunities than in the past. Many students enter the psychology program with the intentions of being a psychologist. However, only about one-fourth of the students who receive a bachelors degree in psychology actually goes on to attend graduate school and receives masters degrees and doctorates. The other three fourths stop at a bachelors degree and then step into the working world.
Some of the foundations that a psychology degree provide include a knowledge base concerning the history of psychology, human behavior, critical thinking and reasoning skills, communication skills, research skills, and communication skills. This sounds like a degree that would benefit most of society. Learning to understand each other, reason together, and communicate would be advantageous to the world in general.
A psychology degree can open up opportunities in many areas of employment and career goals. Managers, executives, administrators, retail sales, social workers, personnel, insurance, real estate, accountants, and auditors are just a few occupations that can be launched with a psychology degree. There are other fields and each of these listed have multiple other branches of jobs available. Because psychology deals with human emotions and interaction, a psychology degree assists in preparing the student for almost any area of work that has to do with dealing with people on a personal level.
The opening opportunities for a new psychology degree holder may be less than perfect initially. If a student embraces the job and realizes it is a step in the career field they have chosen, progress can be made. The first job may not be the perfect job, but it can certainly lay the groundwork for establishing ones self in the psychology field. Patience, participation, dependability, and dedication will show an employer they have hired an employee that is willing to do whatever it takes to accomplish the task.
